1323054 Wheel alignment indicators G K N TRANSMISSIONS Ltd 16 July 1970 [24 July 1969] 37209/69 Heading G1X A device for indicating alignment errors of a pair of wheels on a common axle of rotation comprises two adjacent platforms 23, 24 supported on a base plate by rollers 30 so as to be moveable transversely of the rolling direction of the wheels when one of the wheels is rolled over the platforms 23, 24. As shown, the platforms 23, 24 which are each supported on the rollers 30 spaced apart by blocks 31 are guided for the transverse movement by rails 32, 33 which engage rollers 34 mounted for rotation about vertical axes on the base-plate and are located between two ramps 22 and 25 fixed to the base-plate. Coil springs 42 and 50 bias the platforms 23, 24 to an at-rest position and any transverse displacement of the platform 24 from the at-rest position against the action of the springs 50 when a wheel is driven over the device from one ramp 22 to the other 25 results in a displacement of a rack and pinion mechanism 55, 56 which actuates a potentiometer connected to an electrical recorder whereby alignment errors can be ascertained and recorded.
