Joist floors; partitions. -In a sound-insulating double floor, the upper floor 12 is secured to nailing strips 13 which rest at intervals on cushions 15 made of cattle hair, sea grass, felt, &c. The cushions embrace the sides of the nailing strips and are carried by supports 14 which straddle the width of the ceiling joists 11 and leave a clear space between their bases and the lower floor for the passage of pipes &c. Studding for partitions is similarly carried by a floor plate or sill resting on cushions in supports 14.
