Abstract
1322547 Pressure casting machines REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 12 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 48380/70 Heading B3F A pressure casting machine has a fixed die half 3 and a movable die half 7 which together define a plurality of mould cavities, and a plurality of core members 10 1 which are inserted and removed from the mould cavities by control units 10 each of which controls the insertion and removal of cores in two mould cavities. Each control unit 10 is vertically movable on a bracket 9 by means of a piston and cylinder unit 9 2 , and includes an actuator 10 2 which is connected to a central core member 14 via a piston rod 19, member 18 and a mounting head 17. The end of the rod 19 is hollow and contains a spring 22 which pushes member 23 and thus urges rod 24 and pivot members 25 against lateral core members 15 which are rigid with rack members 27 in meshing engagement with pinions 28. A spring loaded ball 31 is housed in a bore 37 in the member 18 and is slidable along a groove 32 in a tubular member 30 on vertical movement of the member 18. After the casting 12 has solidified the central core member 14 is retracted by raising the rod 19. This causes member 18 and head 17 to move upwardly until the ball 31 engages in a hole 33 in the member 30 after which the member 30 also moves upwardly and operates the pinions 29 thus causing the two core members 15 to move towards each other and to be released from the casting 12. The complete control unit 10 is then raised by the piston and cylinder unit 9 2 to remove the core members from the mould cavity. The core assembly consists of five core members, two of the lateral core members (16) being pivotally mounted on shafts (41) supported by the members 25 and operated by means of a cam on the upper part of the core member 14. Other core elements 11 1 may be provided and are controlled by mechanisms 11 which also operate ejector pins. The machine may have more than two die parts to facilitate removal of the cast product, the third die part being vertically movable or pivotable above a horizontal axis (3 3 ) Fig. 3, (not shown). The machine may be used to cast clusters of pistons, e.g. four or eight at a time.
