Abstract

1322197 Continuous crystallization process STAMICARBON NV 11 Dec 1970 [12 Dec 1969 2 March 1970] 59092/70 Heading BIG A continuous crystal-producing process comprises forming crystal nuclei in a precrystallization zone, transporting the nuclei to an adiabatic recrystallization zone containing a suspension of crystals which grow at the expense of the majority of the nuclei, and continuously discharging the crystals of increased size. In Fig. 1 is schematically shown a cooled heat exchanger Al with a scraper device 3 which forms a precrystallization zone. Crystallizer B provided with stirrer 5 is the recrystallization zone and C is a crystal/mother liquor separator. The time for the nuclei to pass from the precrystallization to the recrystallization zone is preferably a few seconds, while the residence time in the recrystallization zone is preferably 1-5 hours.
