1322058 Racing handicapping vending machine DYNAMIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS Inc 7 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 47690/70 Headings G4T and G4V A computer-calculated racing handicapping vending console 20 (Fig. 1) comprises a coin slot 42, a ticket-dispensing aperture 28, a plurality of request entry switches 30 corresponding to the possible handicapping systems for calculation, a display panel 12 having a plurality of lamps 18 showing the availability of the systems for calculation, a plurality of lamps 32, 34, 36, 38 indicating the current operating mode of the associated computer, and a printer for printing on a ticket the handicapping calculated. As described, an operator inserts one or more coins into the coin slot 42. The coin or coins may be returned through a shoot (66), (Fig. 8, not reproduced), to the ticket-dispensing aperture 28 (Fig. 1) (a) by a rejector relay (see Fig. 4) when the computer is not ready for computation as indicated by a "ready" lamp 38, (b) by a coin discriminator separating out invalid coins, or (c) by a coin return button 40 (Fig. 1). Valid coins are counted, stored in a reservoir (64), (Fig. 8), and then a signal produced on a signal line A (Fig. 4). The number of coins inserted determines the illumination of either a "single" 32 (Fig. 1) or "combination" 34 lamp to indicate whether one, or several handicapping systems in combination, are to be selected. The operator selects these by depressing one or more illuminated buttons 30. Provided the appropriate handicapping systems are available for use as indicated on a signal line B (Fig. 4), then the number of buttons 30 depressed is summed by a valid request counter, and compared with the quantity of money inserted. On correspondence, a computing latch relay is activated and a computing lamp 36 (Fig. 1) illuminated. The data then calculated by the computer using the selected handicapping system(s) is fed to a printer (52), (Figs. 6, 7, not reproduced), and a ticket printed, cut from the stock by a cutter (70) (Figs. 9, 10, not reproduced), and delivered. Finally, the money and valid request counters are reset by the computer. Any malfunction results in the computer extinguishing the "ready" lamp 38 (Fig. 1), and causing issuance of an appropriately printed ticket.
