1322008 Electro-deposition of porous chromium plate KEWANEE OIL CO 14 Sept 1970 43838/70 Heading C7B A method of improving the corrosion resistance of chromium electro-deposited on a nickel coating on a metal substrate includes impinging the nickel layer with solid particulate material with sufficient intensity to produce nicking of the nickel surface thereby forming at least 3000 micronicks/inch thereon but insufficient to decrease the brightness thereof, and thereafter electro-coating with a thin layer of chromium. The particulate material may be sand; lead, iron or nickel powder; polyethylene or polystyrene pellets; magnesium filings or glass beads.
