1321875 Extracting active principles STIFTUNG ONOPHRIO 9 Oct 1970 48146/70 Heading A5B A biologically active material having a stimulating influence on cell growth and processes is obtained from phospholipid-containing animal or vegetable tissue by: (i) comminuting or homogenising, (ii) extracting with an acidified alcohol, (iii) precipitating protein from the extract with alkali, (iv) removing the precipitate, (v) concentrating the filtrate to a paste, (vi) extracting the paste successively with: (a) an aliphatic ketone, e.g. acetone, (b) an aliphatic alcohol, e.g. MeOH or an aliphatic chlorohydrocarbon and, optionally, (c) an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. benzene and (vii) separating the component-(b)-soluble fraction into a plurality of fractions (4 are disclosed) by selective adsorption each having biological activity. Alternatively, the source material may be converted to a dry powder, formed into a paste with aqueous acid, extracted with chloroform, dioxane or trichlorethylene, and the extract concentrated to a paste which is subjected to steps (vi) and (vii) above.
