Abstract

1321573 Electric transformer SIBIRSKY GOSUDARSTVENNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT METROLOGII 31 Jan 1972 4437/72 Heading HIT [Also in Division G1] A device for use in measuring the Q of a reactive component comprises in combination a vane-type variable capacitor 2, 3, Fig. 1 the movable vanes 3 being mounted on an insulating shaft 5 and being brought out electrically to a terminal 8 on an insulating support 9 via wipers 6, and a transformer having a primary winding 10 around an annular core 11, and a single-turn secondary winding constituted by a central cylindrical member 15 which carries a terminal 16. Thus, as shown in Fig. 2 the single-turn secondary winding 15 is connected to a terminal 16 and to the fixed plates of the capacitor, the movable plate of the capacitor being connected to a terminal 8. In use a component L x under test is connected across terminals 8, 16, and the capacitor C is adjusted until resonance occurs, this being when the maximum voltage across C occurs. The Q of the circuit under test is then equal to the ratio of the maximum potential across C and the potential across the single-turn secondary winding 12, which can be derived from the potential across the primary winding 10 and the turns ratio.
