Abstract

1321533 Projectiles BOFORS AG 8 Jan 1971 [8 Jan 1970] 1098/71 Heading F3A A projectile comprises a casing 3, a pyrotechnic illuminating composition 7 and a reinforcement element 10 made of a material whose yield point in tension is less than that of the material of the casing. This enables the casing, in the event of it being deformed on firing, to spring back as much as, or more than the reinforcement element so that the composition 7 and reinforcement element are still capable of being ejected from the casing by means 12. The reinforcement element 10 is divided into segments which are arranged to fall away, when ejected from the casing so as to release a parachute 8 for the illuminating composition. The projectile is fired by propellant gases acting on a face 4 and on a rearwardly displaceable end plate 5. The reinforcement element 10 and end plate 5 may be integral.
