Abstract

1321454 Knitting machines BENTLEY ENG CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [11 March 1970] 11566/ 70 Heading D1C In producing a fabric on a circular rotary cylinder knitting machine, the fabric is withdrawn upwardly by suction through a passageway rotating with the cylinder and, when complete, drawing it down into a lower receptacle by reversing the suction. In a superposed cylinder knitting machine a receiving unit 5 with a wire mesh barrier 6 is rotatable with upper cylinder 1 and is connected through pipe 9 and valve box 13 to a motor driven fan. An outlet pipe 12 from unit 10 is also connected to valve box 13 from which pipe 14 leads to a chamber 15. A fabric delivery tube 16 extending down from cylinder 2 is connected to chamber 15 which has a trap 17 through which articles may be removed. During knitting, the article is drawn into unit 5 and when it is cast off, valve 13a is turned so that the article is sucked down into chamber 15 inside out and ready for to seaming or linking. A throat tube 34 supports take down tube 16. Clamped to a tube 35 passing through upper cylinder 1 which supports a ring 36 carrying verge bits 33 is a ring 39 with spaced pins 41 slidable in holes in the cover plate 42 of cylinder 1. Plate 42 is biassed upwards by springs 43 and a lever 44 controls the level of ring 39 and tube 35. This allows the verge bits to be raised out of operation during reciprocatory knitting. Lever 44 is operated from the main cam drum through a rod 63 or bowden cable which engages lever 60. Valve 13a is fixed to a spindle 64 also controlled through levers by the main cam drum. In a single cylinder machine, unit 5 and tube 35 are mounted to rotate with the single cylinder.
