Abstract
1320536 Compression moulding of metallic powder INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 9 Nov 1971 [26 Nov 1970 3 Nov 1971] 56269/70 and 51211/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division C7] An article is produced from two layers of powders, one of which is magnetic. The magnetic powder may be Fe, Co or Ni, or a non- magnetic powder coated with one of these. In an example, an Al bearing bush is made having a graphite lining, in which the graphite powder is coated with Ni to render it magnetic. A magnet is positioned centrally in the mould, the Ni-coated graphite powder is sprinkled round it, followed by the Al powder, and the powder is compressed. The mould and magnet are removed and the compact is sintered. Other powders can be used instead of Al, e.g. 5Sn- 95Cu, 105n-90Cu, 25Cu-75Fe, 1À5P-5Pb- 93À5Cu. For making other articles, the magnetic powder could be caused to adhere to the inner surface of the mould by magnetic force.
