Abstract

132,049. Lake, C. J. Sept. 9, 1918. motor power plant.-Relates to motor installations for aircraft &c. wherein the exhaust gases from an internal-combustion engine are delivered together with additional air to the blades of an auxiliary turbine. The exhaust gases from a radial-cylinder rotary engine 2 discharge through nozzles 14 located in air tubes 15 disposed so as to receive a swift current of air, which together with the gases is led to the fixed and moving blades 12, 13 of a turbine having screw spokes 13<a> mounted on the sleeve 6 of the engine, which is mounted within a casing 16. Cooling and scavenging are thereby facilitated. Any number of sets of fixed and moving blades may be used. The cylinders may be non-rotary, and the arrangement of the air tubes may be modified.
