Abstract

1319588 Mechanical belting DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 11th Oct 1970 [25 Oct 1969] 52385/69 Heading B5N Mechanical belting, e.g. conveyer belting, comprises a flexible polymeric composition, e.g. of natural or synthetic rubber or plasticized polyvinyl chloride, having embedded therein a reinforcement structure at least part of which comprises fine steel wires each wire having a diameter of 0À003 inch or less and being of flexibility such that it can be woven or otherwise handled on a substantially conventional textile loom. The fine steel wires may be in the form of a fabric woven wholly therefrom or of a fabric having a warp of fine steel wire and a weft of textile fibres, e.g. cotton. Alternatively the reinforcement may comprise unwoven fine steel wires or multifilament yarns made therefrom extending in the longitudinal direction of the belting. The reinforcement structure may also include at least one layer of fabric formed from textile fibres. Bond promoting agents, e.g. cobalt napththenate may be applied to the fine steel wires to improve their bonding to the polymeric composition. Woven fabric comprising fine steel wires may be coated with natural rubber, cut into suitable lengths, interleaved with layers of natural rubber to form a three ply mechanical belting having upper and lower surfaces of rubber, cured in a press and trimmed.
