Abstract

1319582 Screw sockets; anchor bolts T G H SMITH 16 June 1970 [16 June 1969 9 Sept 1969 24 March 1970] 30351/69 44502/69 and 14053/70 Heading F2H A fixing device to be secured in a bore in a wall or other structure comprises a bolt extending axially within a radially expansible socket and projecting from the rear end thereof, the bolt having at least one expander member to expand substantially the whole length of the socket into gripping engagement with the sides of the bore. In Fig. 1, spaced-apart expander portions on the bolt have frusto-conical screwthreaded outer surfaces engaging corresponding frusto-conical screw-threaded surfaces of the socket bore, the smaller end of each expander portion facing the rear end of the socket. In a modification, Fig. 13, a single screw-threaded frusto-conical expander is used. Screwing the bolt in the socket expands the latter. In Fig. 3, spaced-apart expander nuts threaded on to the bolt have frusto-conical outer surfaces engaging frusto-conical surfaces of the bore of a divided socket, diametrically opposed studs on the nuts engaging between the socket halves to prevent rotation of the nuts in the socket. A modification (Fig. 4, not shown) uses a single frustoconical nut almost as long as the socket. The socket may have rows of external ribs alternately parallel to and transverse to its longitudinal axis to improve grip, Fig. 9. The socket may have an external flange at one or each end, the latter form being for use in a through bore in a panel. A one-piece socket may have at least one part-length division extending from one or each end, in the latter case the divisions from the two ends being staggered circumferentially. One full-length division can also be provided. A two-part socket may have interengaging lugs and slots along the adjacent edges of its halves (Figs. 10, 11, not shown), the halves being held together by a spring clip or an adhesive encasement. In Fig. 12 (not shown), the bolt has a parallel screw-threaded expander portion of greater diameter than its main shank, and of greater diameter than the parallel screw-threaded bore of the expansible socket.
