Abstract
1319516 Screw sockets RAWLPLUG CO Ltd 18 Aug 1971 [8 June 1970] 27548/70 Heading F2H A bolt-anchor comprises a sleeve 1 with an internal screw-thread 7 or a nut member at one end 8, longitudinal slots (9), extending from the other end 6 defining flexible fingers 11, and a separate tubular expansion member 2 through which the shank of a bolt 4 can freely pass to engage the screw-thread 7, the nose of the expansion member 2 having a circumferential rib 23 adapted to engage an internal annular groove 13 in the end 6 of the sleeve 1 to connect together the sleeve and the expansion member coaxially while they are inserted into a prepared hole 31, subsequent drawing of the sleeve 1 over the expansion member 2 by the bolt 4 splaying the fingers 11 to prevent withdrawal of the anchor from the hole. An annular groove 12 round the sleeve renders the fingers 11 flexible at their roots. The sleeve and expansion member are of plastics, e.g. nylon or polypropylene. The expansion member has a star-shaped flange 26 at its rear end. After inserting the anchor into the hole, with the rib 23 engaging the groove 13 (Fig. 5, not shown), the bolt is engaged with the screw-thread 7 and pulled to bring the groove 13 into engagement with a second rib 20 on the expansion member (Fig. 6, not shown) to splay the fingers 11 enough to prevent withdrawal of the anchor from the hole. After positioning a member 28 to be secured, the bolt 4 is re-inserted and tightened until the fingers engage the rear of the panel 29, further splayed. The anchor is usable in a blind hole, e.g. in lightweight concrete. The expansion member may have one or more external longitudinal fins to resist turning in the hole. One or more fins may be provided on the conical nose portion 21 of the expansion member to engage a slot or slots (9) of the sleeve to prevent relative rotation. The fin or fins may have enlarged radially outer portions to engage rounded outer surfaces of the slots (9) to hold the parts 1, 2 together, the rib 23 and groove 13 being omitted.
