1319404 Delivering sheets NORFIN Inc 28 July 1971 35496/71 Heading B8R Sheets S delivered on chains 12 are carried on a downward path past a plurality of pockets 16 and delivered into selected pockets by a deflector 20 carried on chains 22 driven through a clutch 33 by a motor M-34 so as to move downwardly (or upwardly) in an uninterupted return movement, and upwardly (or downwardly) in an indexing movement controlled by the clutch 33 and a brake 34. A control circuit operates the clutch and brake so as to bring the deflector successively to selected pockets, remaining in each position until a desired number of sheets are delivered into that pocket, and skipping those pockets to which no sheets are to be delivered. Fingers 43 can be depressed when it is desired to divert sheets into a proof tray 44. Sheets passing into the pockets are counted by the interruption of a light beam passing from a light source 39 to a photocell 40. During the return movement of the deflector, the fingers 43 are lowered, and thereafter the deflector moves forward to an initial station, determined by the setting of a dial 49, where it is stopped and the fingers 43 stand in readiness for a distribution cycle under the control of a tab 46 actuating a switch S-25. As the deflector arrives at each station, a cam 37 actuates a switch S-138, which causes the deflector to stop unless that station is to be skipped.
