1319264 Abrasive tools L R OLIVER & CO Inc 6 Oct 1970 [15 July 1970] 47515/70 Heading B3D A grinding wheel comprises a substantially flat planar hub portion 24 having an opening 22 for insertion of a shaft, a continuous undulating peripheral edge portion 26, and an intermediate portion between the hub and peripheral portions having a series of spaced vane-like members 30 extending generally radially of the wheel and of increasing axial dimension from the hub portion to the edge portion for causing circulation of ambient air about the wheel during its rotation. The wheel is formed from a flat metal disc by stamping and abrasive, such as crushed carbide, silicon carbide grit, aluminium oxide grit, is bonded or brazed to the edge. The edge may be sinusoidal (Fig. 4, not shown) or consist of straight edge portions 32, 34 connected by straight vane portions 52, 54. The edge portions 32, 34 may be displaced an equal amount on opposite sides of the plane of the hub portion or may be displaced to one side only (Fig. 4). The peripheral contour may be convex, flat or concave (Fig. 5, not shown). A number of wheels may be assembled on a shaft in uniformly spaced apart relation so as to intermesh, the wheels being held apart by spacers or washers, or so that oppositely disposed edge portions abut and are secured together by rivets or brazing. Inlet apertures may be formed in the wheels so that air or cooling liquid may enter between the wheels and be pumped by the vanes to the edges of the wheels.
