Abstract

1318850 Identity card J DETHLOFF and H GROTTRUP 30 June 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 1288/73 Divided out of 1317915 Heading B6A An identifying card for use in an identifying system, comprises a body containing means 39 providing information which is mechanically readable and means 43 providing information which is electrically readable by an identificator of the system, the mechanically readable means being also visually readable and being manually movable for selection of a reference number of two or more figures visible in window means 48 of the body, and means 41 normally covering the window means and movable manually to enable the reference number to be viewed, the mechanically readable means being also movable by the identificator to determine the reference number. The card has a foot 38 which is separated from the body by notches 40, the foot contains the means 39 (integrated circuits) for providing the electrically readable information and the notches enable the card to be held in position in the identificator. The body of the card consists of four layers 33, 42, 44, 46 the layer 33 containing visually readable information, e.g. the signature of the holder and his photograph 36, one of the intermediate layers contains recesses which receive the covering means which consist of slides 41, the next intermediate layer 44 contains two adjustable wheels 43 which constitute the mechanically readable means and the final layer is a rear layer. Each slide 41 has a slot 47 through which an axle on which a corresponding wheel 47 is rotatable, passes. The cover layer 33 contains two windows 48 one for each wheel and for each wheel when the corresponding slide is in one position figures on the periphery of the wheel can be read through the window and the slot. When the slide is in another position the figures cannot be seen. The slide is biased to the latter position by a spring and its movement is limited by a lug engaging a notch. The wheels each have a notched periphery which enables them to be adjusted to any desired figure in the window, each wheel is set to zero when the card is inserted into the identificator.
