Abstract

1318789 Making bags MUSASHINO MECHANICAL ENG CO Ltd and MITSUBISHI PETRO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 29 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 36638/70 Heading B5D Flat bags are made from plastics or laminated plastics film by cutting and folding the film transversely to its feed direction and sealing it in a direction parallel with the feed direction. As shown, plastics film unwound from a roller 2, tensioned by a roller 6, printed by rollers 9, 10, 11 and an ink pan 12 and dried by hot air from nozzles 20, 21, is cut transversely by a rotating cutter roller 26 and a fixed blade 27. The piece of film is then folded intermediate its cut ends by a cam-operated folding plate 47 oscillating between rollers 45 and 46 and is sealed and cut along a plurality of lines parallel with its feed direction by sealing rollers 63, 64 and aligned cutter rollers 67, 68, and the resulting bags are stacked in boxes 69. A slider (36) to which the folding plate 47 is pivoted is movable parallel to the film feed direction so that the film piece may be folded in the centre, or offset therefrom to form bags having lips at the open ends. The position of the printed matter on the web relative to the cutter 26, 27 may be adjusted by means of a roller 17. The drive for the roller 2, the cutter roller 26, the cam for the folding plate 27 and for the various feeding conveyer belts is derived from a single source. The plastics film may be laminated with paper, aluminium foil or " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark).
