Abstract

1318660 Electron beam deflecting apparatus GTE SYLVANIA Inc 10 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 19989/71 Heading H1D A deflection yoke for a colour television tube employing three electron guns in delta formation, comprises a toroidal yoke 15 on which first and second horizontal deflection windings 17 and 19 are toroidally wound and first and second vertical deflection windings 29 and 31 each comprising two toroidally wound layers with each turn 39 of the second layer supported by a pair of turns 37 of the first layer and having a diameter greater than that of the turns of the first layer. The increased diameter may be due to increased conductor diameter, which reduces the resistance, or to increased insulation thickness. Flux altering means in the form of a winding gap or short-circuited turns may be provided at 21, 23 for the horizontal windings and at 33, 35 for the vertical windings. The horizontal windings are preferably but not necessarily symmetrical and in mirror-image relationship with respect to the horizontal axis H-H<SP>1</SP>, and the vertical windings are preferably also in mirror-image relationship about both axes H-H<SP>1</SP> and V-V<SP>1</SP>. The horizontal windings are interleaved with the vertical windings and may but need not be of similar construction. The vertical deflection current is supplied to an input end 41 and passes through the second layer the end of which is connected by an external lead 43 to the pair of turns at the beginning of first layer the end of which is connected by a lead 45 to the pair of turns at the beginning of the first layer of the other winding; the pair of turns at the end of this layer is connected by lead 47 to the second layer, the other end of which is connected to earth or a fixed potential.
