Abstract

1318611 Lasers CARL ZEISS JENA VEB 6 July 1970 16122/70 Heading HlC A frequency stabilized ring laser includes a non-reciprocal absorber 5 in the resonator defined by mirrors 1, 2, 3, and uses an active medium having an inhomogeneously broadened line width so that the two oppositely-directed beams produced by the medium interact, the beams being coupled sufficiently at the median resonant frequency for one beam to become predominant, and both beams becoming decoupled and more equally effective if a frequency change occurs due to mechanical or thermal fluctuation of the optical path length in the resonator. Each beam is separately extracted through partially transmitting mirror 2, and is detected by a respective photodetector 6, the presence of both beams causing an electronic circuit to produce pulses which adjusts the position of mirror 3 through an electromagnetic member 8.
