Abstract
1318552 Physiological testing; heated clamps AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 11 June 1970 [19 June 1969] 28277/70 Headings A5K and A5R [Also in Division G1] In a device for measuring the oxygen content of blood in a section of body tissue, e.g. an ear 14, clamped between two jaws 42, 44, light is emitted from jaw 44 and the transmitted light is received in jaw 42, which also contains an electrical heater and a temperature semor, control means 36 being provided to maintain the ear temperature constant. Light of the desired wavelength is selected by an appropriate filter 20 and transmitted to jaw 44 along a fibre optic guide 18. Alternatively this jaw may contain a number of different wavelength light emitting diodes. A photodetector may either be located in the jaw 42 or may be in optical contact through a fibre optic guide 26. During operation compressed air pumped through line 30 expands a diaphragm 28 to expel blood from the ear.
