Abstract

1317198 Rotary drilling tools JOHN M PERKINS & SMITH Ltd 22 Sept 1971 [20 July 1970] 35079/70 Heading B3C A rotary drilling tool comprises a tubular drill 1 with cutting teeth 4 and a separate shank 8 selectively co-operable therewith in either of two positions namely an operative position in which threaded end 7 of the shank engages the threaded end 5b from the right hand side or in a storage position in which threaded end 7 is passed through the tubular drill from end 5a to engage threaded end 5b. In this latter position the shank 8 protects the teeth 4 during storage or transportation. The tool may have a pilot drill 11 which projects through the tubular drill 1 for flats 12 to engage in a slotted 13 end of the shank 8 and has a washer 14 positioned thereon to centre the drill within the tubular drill. The washer will have flats so that it can pass the teeth 4. In a modification the tubular drill has a portion 22 for engaging with and steadying the pilot drill. If portion 22 is of a smaller diameter than the screwthread then shank 8 will need a reduced portion to engage therewith and steady it in the storage position. (For Figures see next column)
