1317133 Testing coins MARS Inc 23 March 1972 [25 March 1971] 13747/72 Heading G4V A device for clearing jammed coins or other objects from a coin passageway in a coin tester includes means for increasing the spacing of walls 36, 38 defining the passageway and a stripper 60 having fingers 68 which project through apertures 70 in one of the walls and enter the passageway when the wall spacing is increased. In the embodiment shown the coin tester is of the type wherein coins roll past a magnet 26 which slows the coin by an amount dependent on the coins electrical conductivity and density, and the velocity of the coin is then analysed by an array of photo-electric detectors 28 and suitable logic combinational circuitry, for example as described in Specification No. 1,272,560. If the coin is established as genuine a solenoid operated platform 30 is withdrawn to allow the coin to pass into an acceptance shoot 32. The walls 36, 38 are hinged together at 40, and wall 36 may be pivoted by depression of a lever 80 which has a wedge portion 86 engagable with a wheel 88 mounted on the wall 36. The stripper 60 is mounted on the stationary wall 38 and some of the fingers 68 are preferably located so as to strip ferromagnetic coins from the magnet 26 on movement of wall 36. The manually operated reject lever 80 may be replaced or complemented by means which automatically open the walls at a predetermined time after a coin passes coin arrival sensor 22 but fails to pass sensor array 28. In an alternative embodiment the wall 36 is stationary and wall 38 movable.
