Abstract
1317097 Coin testing GNT AUTOMATIC AS 23 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 29386/71 Heading G4V A coin testing device particularly for a coinfreed telephone comprises sloping coin shoot 3 between transversely inclined front and back walls 2, 1, said front wall having an opening through which coins below a predetermined diameter will fall out, the top of the opening being defined by a guide member 10 that is movable from an upper to a lower position under the control of a coin detector 5, (6) (Fig. 3, not shown), situated higher up the shoot and the response of which is dependent upon the coin material. In the embodiment shown the coin detector is dependent on the coupling between generator coil 5 and detector coil (6) and on the passage of an acceptable coin between the coils an electromagnet 12 is energized to move the guide 10 to its lower position permitting the coin, if of acceptable diameter to roll past the opening in the front wall. The guide 10 is preferably adjustably attached to the armature 11 of the solenoid. The guide member 10, is also arranged, when in its lower position, to trap over thick coins between its trailing edge and the back wall, these coins falling out of the opening when the electromagnet 12 is de-energized and the guide member returns to its upper position. The coin detector may alternatively make a capacitative measurement on the coin.
