Abstract
1316886 Hydrogen V P SEMENOV 24 Dec 1970 61377/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] An apparatus for reforming hydrocarbons under pressure to produce a gas mixture containing H 2 , e.g. an ammonia synthesis gas, comprises primary and secondary reforming chambers (B, C), see Fig. 1 (not shown), in a common shell (1). The chambers (B, C) are separated by a chamber D defined by transverse partitions 11, 12. Catalyst-containing tubes 2 in the chamber (B) traverse the chamber D, perforated tubes 13 permitting a gas, e.g. air, supplied at 16 to pass through the chamber D to the chamber (C). The tubes 2 are externally heated by hot gases, feed-stock and steam being delivered to the tubes 2, which are mounted at their bases in sliding packed joints 14. Means 15 to allow thermal expansion form a mounting for the partitions 11, 12. The chamber (C) contains a catalyst bed on a grid (6).
