Abstract

1316556 Topical base WARNER-LAMBERT CO 11 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 6505/72 Heading A5B A topical base for steroids comprises a mixture of ethanol, propylene glycol and water, gelled with an acidic carboxyvinyl polymer e.g. Carbopol (trade mark) which has been neutralised with an amine e.g. diisopropanolamine. The base may also contain disodium edetate, a stabiliser for the carboxyvinyl polymer. A topical ointment comprises the base and a steroid e.g. the anti-inflammatory betamethasone 17-benzoate.
