1315997 4,4-Dimethyl-1,3-dioxane VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT NEFTEKHIMICHESKIKH PROTSESSOV 10 Aug 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 42446/70 Heading C2C 4,4 - Dimethyl - 1,3 - dioxane is prepared by reacting isobutylene with formaldehyde in an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid, removing an aqueous phase from the reaction zone, dissolving gaseous formaldehyde in this phase and recycling it to the reaction zone. The isobutylene may be used in the form of a C 4 hydrocarbon fraction containing isobutylene or as a fraction obtained by pyrolysis of gasoline.
