1315799 Bridge-laying vehicles DR ING h c F PORSCHE KG 25 Feb 1972 [11 March 1971] 8841/72 Headings B7B and B7H A bridge-laying vehicle has a jib 3 which is pivotable at 4 by means of a ram 5 and which carries two pairs 8, 9 of rollers which are received in the guide rails 15 at each side of each of two bridge elements 2a, 2b. The elements 2a, 2b are placed one above the other for transit and are laid down and taken up by means of a driven gear wheel 16 and transmission 10, mounted on the jib 3, acting on teeth 51 positioned adjacent the rails 15 on the bridge elements 2a, 2b. Gear-wheel 16 is mounted on a driven shaft 24 and is urged towards engagement with teeth 51 by a spring 29 under the control of a twoarmed lever 33 which is journalled to the jib 3 at 37. One arm 34 of the lever 33 is bifurcated into branches 39, 40 which are able to exert an axial force on the gear-wheel 16 while the other arm 45 has an extension 47 and a follower 50 which follows the ramp 31 formed on bridge element 2b at the end of the rack of teeth 51, which movement is transmitted to arm 34 and thence to gear-wheel 16 so that it is held away from the bridge element 2b until the follower 50 passes over the end of the ramp 31 at which moment the gear-wheel 16 and some of the teeth 51 are in exact alignment and can be brought into engagement by spring 29.
