Abstract

1315464 Deformable pot bearings; bridge bearings KOBER AG 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 20688/71 Headings F2A and F2S A bridge bearing comprises either two reentrant pistons 5 sliding in a ring 2 and enclosing a deformable mass 4, Fig. 8, or a piston 5a with two re-entrant surfaces supported on deformable masses 4 in two pots 3, Fig. 3. In Fig. 3 a sliding bearing (chromium plated layer or austenitic steel strip 14a on PTFE 19) yieldably mounted on a support consisting of mirror image pots 3 containing a deformable mass 4, e.g. rubber enclosed by a double-sided piston 5a. The lower pot can slide on a base-plate 12 within the limits of a ring 13. The walls of the pot may be made separate from the base and fitted on with preloading (Fig. 2, not shown). In Fig. 7 (not shown) the periphery of the piston is formed with two lips to seal against the pots. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the base of each pot is complementary to the piston surfaces, thus reducing the amount of deformable material required. In the sliding bearing of Fig. 6, a polyacetal layer (21) slides on a PTFE layer (19). The piston surfaces may be concave as shown, or stepped. The pistons and pots may be circular or polygonal in plan. In Fig. 9 (not shown) the construction of Fig. 8 is modified by a diaphragm across the ring which divides the deformable mass into two. The piston may be plastics, e.g. a polyamide, or a metal, e.g. a non-ferrous metal or a light alloy.
