Abstract

1315456 Colour television receiver INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 27 May 1971 [20 June 1970] 17517/71 Heading H4F Brightness control in a colour television receiver is effected by clamping the luminance signal, before it is matrixed with a colour difference signal, with the aid of square pulses of adjustable magnitude. As shown, a (D.C. clamped) luminance signal is applied at terminal 1 and the square pulses are derived from the voltage at capacitor 16, the magnitude of which is controlled by potentiometer 17, when the diodes 8 and 15 are rendered conductive by horizontal flyback pulses applied to terminal 10. The resulting clamped luminance signal is then matrixed with a colour difference signal applied to terminal 11 to form a colour video signal which is passed to output 31 via a video amplifier 19-40. Alternatively the clamped luminance signal may be passed to output terminal 2. The video amplifier includes a trimmer resistor 28 to compensate for possible differences in the control-voltage requirements of the three guns in a colour display tube, and a trimmer resistor 34 which derives from the flyback pulses at terminal 40 a control signal for presetting the amplifier operating point so that it is not driven beyond its operating range by the maximum white level.
