Abstract

1315333 Light guides UCENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGSGmbH 22 Oct 1970 [23 Oct 1969] 50295/70 Heading G2J Two optical members are coupled together with a resonator between them. In Fig. 1 a light guide core 1 is surrounded by a coaxial glass fibre wave guide 2 and a refractive sheath 3. The end faces 4 of the members 1, 2, 3 are polished and a mirror coating is deposited thereon leaving an unmirrored aperture aligned with the core 1. The end faces 4 provide a resonator 5 which may be in the form of a large diameter optical fibre of glass e.g. having a refractive index which varies parabolically radially of the fibre, on the end faces may be other than flat e.g. concave on parabolic and the light guides may be held together by adjusting devices 6 which space them to obtain a resonator having a frequency greater than half the wave length of a laser beam transmitted by the light guides. The optical member may be spaced apart by spacer rings secured by clamps.
