1314977 Knitting machines BENTLEY ENG CO Ltd 26 Aug 1970 [8 Sept 1969 2 Oct 1969 9 Oct 1969] 44327/69 48393/69 and 49667/69 Headings D1C and D1X A pneumatic take-down for a circular knitting machine comprises an inner tube 22 mounted within the take-down tube 20 and freely rotatable between these tubes an apertured freely rotatable annulus which, on completion of the knitting, is raised within its space so that the stocking &c. drawn down into this space is lifted and by control of the air suction is turned inside out and drawn down tube 22. Annulus 24, e.g. of plastics has vanes 26 by which it is rotated by compressed air and may be movable vertically by three rollers 36 which engage it through P.V.C. strips 38. Rollers 36 are each carried in a housing 50 threaded on to a shaft 54 so that it may be raised and lowered along with annulus 24. Pulleys 62 fast on shafts 54 are driven by a reversing motor so that annulus 24 can be raised out of the space between tubes 20, 22 and the product reversed. When rods 52 on top of housings 50 strike ring 60 rollers 36 are moved back and annulus 24 drops down. In another arrangement, a moulded plastics spider 70 moulded integral with a plastics sleeve 72 with soft iron inserts 74 carries pivoted paddles 78 moved by air pressure between an open or knitting position and a closed or reversing position. Permanent magnets 76 are secured to a toothed ring driven at cylinder speed. Inner tube 22 can be lowered for removal of the finished article, Fig. 9 (not shown) shows an alternative arrangement for lowering the tube 22. In operation fabric is knitted and drawn down between tubes 20, 22 by suction from fan (116) Fig. 10 (not shown). On completion air is blown in, annulus 24 or sleeve 70 having been raised and tube 22 being lowered if appropriate, and the article is drawn up and out through tube 20 being at the same time turned inside out.
