Abstract

1314334 Mole ploughs E S THORNTON and K A GARNETT [trading as THORNTON & GARNETT] 2 July 1970 [3 July 1969] 33612/69 Heading AIB A plough for forming a mole drain or channel comprises in combination a frame 14 adapted for pivotal connection to a vehicle 10 about a horizontal axis 13 transverse to the intended direction of travel, an elongate coulter 20, having a share 22, pivotally connected to the frame 14 about an axis 21 parallel to axis 13 and power actuated means e.g. double-acting hydraulic ram 25 which can vary the relative angular setting about the axis 21 of the coulter as it is moved through the ground. Sights 35, and frame to steer the share in a vertical plane 36 are carried by the coulter for assisting in aligning the share path with rods placed in the ground. A seat 32 for an operator may be provided and is mounted for pivotal movement about axis 21 and connected via a parallel linkage comprising plate 30 member 33 and frame 14 to the towing vehicle 10 so that the seat is maintained at a substantially constant angular position relative to the vehicle 10 irrespective of changes in the angular setting of the frame 14 to the vehicle. A further double-acting hydraulic ram 15 pivots the frame relative to the vehicle to lift the share out of work. The two ends of the cylinder of the ram 15 may be hydraulically connected to enable the frame to "float". The vehicle 10 is preferably drawn by a winch 12 connected to a ground anchor. A chute 23 may lay short earthenware pipes 24 or continuous flexible plastics piping.
