Abstract

1314295 Modular recreational unit R DATTNER 21 Oct 1971 48992/71 Heading A6M [Also in Division E1] A recreational unit, e.g. for use in parks and children's play areas, comprises a hollow cuboctahedron module 1 having six equal squares faces 2 with apertures 4 therethrough and eight equal equilateral triangles 3. Each module 1 is of such size as to accommodate a child therein and several such modules of equal size may be joined together by bolts passing through holes (7) (Figs. 3a, 3b) in the corners of the faces 2, 3 to form a climbing frame or maze (Figs. 6, 9 not shown), Fig. 10. Each aperture 4 has an inwardly directed lip (5) (Fig. 2 not shown) strengthened and protected by a sheath (6) which serves as a hand or foot-hold. The surfaces of the faces 2, 3 may be roughened (Fig. 7 not shown) to provide better gripping areas. Additional units such as a tunnel 9, Fig. 10 and an open arcuate slide 19 may be attached to the square faces 2 by bolting flanged ends 10, 16 of the units 9, 19 to the faces so that the apertures 4 register with the tunnel or slide. The base of the slide 19 has a supporting pin (20) (Figs. 6a, 6b not shown) and the tunnel member 9 may have flanges at only one end thereof and may also function as an inclined, closed slide.
