Abstract

1314163 Web perforating machine AGFAGEVAERT 29 April 1970 [9 May 1969] 23828/69 Heading B4B A rotary perforating apparatus comprises a web-supporting wheel 35 rotated in a frame 20, Fig. 1, a cam member 24, Fig. 3, fixedly mounted on the frame, and a plurality of web perforator assemblies secured to the outside periphery of the wheel. Each perforator assembly comprises a base member 38, a perforator arm 58 movable relative to the base member and supporting an exchangeable punch element 70, and an associated die element 52 secured to the base member 38. Each perforator arm is moved by engagement with a camming surface 79 of the cam member 24 to cause the punch element 70 to be brought into perforating relationship with the die element 52, the perforator arm being guided during such movement by co-operation of a part thereof or fixed thereto with a wall portion or portions on the die element. In the machine described the wheel 35, Fig. 1, is driven by a shaft 10 and carries perforating assemblies each of which include two perforating arms 58, 59, Fig. 3, pivotally mounted on the base member 38. The arms are pivoted during rotation of the wheel by their engagement with tracks 79, 80 of cam members 24, 25 to cause the punch elements 70 carried by the arms to form perforations in a web carried by the wheel. Each element 70 carries three punches 71 or 72, Fig. 4, at each end and is adjustable and reversible on its respective arm. The arms 58, 59 are guided during pivoting by the engagement of side portions thereof with wall portions 54, 55 of the die element 52. Suction is applied via an aperture 91 to hold the web in place during perforation, and lesser suction is applied via passages 86, 87, Fig. 3, to remove slugs punched from the web. In a second embodiment the base elements are slidably mounted on the wheel and moved axially thereof under the control of a first cam track, and the perforator arms are slidably mounted on the base elements and moved radially of the wheel by a second cam track during perforation.
