1314090 Glass composition NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 22 June 1971 [23 June 1970] 30541/70 Addition to 1270795 Heading C1M [Also in Division C3] A glass composition comprises 35-50% by weight SiO 2 ; 6-30% by weight Al 2 O 3 ; 7-18% by weight alkaline earth metal fluoride; 5-18% by weight alkali metal hexafluoroaluminate; 0-10% by weight AlPO 4 ; and 0À5-20% by weight of a Group III metal selected from indium, gallium, scandium and yttrium (expressed as the oxide, M 2 O 3 ). The preferred Group III metal is indium and numerous examples of glass compositions are disclosed. The glass is produced by mixing the Group III metal or compound thereof with the molten aluminosilicate or with the precursor components used to form it.
