1313759 Chain driven vehicles NORTON VILLIERS Ltd 11 June 1970 [19 June 1969] 30981/69 Heading B7H A chain driven vehicle has resilient suspension means 16 disposed between a fork 14 and a frame 10 to define opposite limit positions of the axis 15 of a driven wheel 13, the axes 21, 23 about which the fork 14 and a power unit 17 are pivotally mounted being coincident with the axis of a chain sprocket 26 on the power unit 17 or lying within a triangle defined by the two limit positions 15a of the wheel axis 15 and the axis 26a of the chain sprocket 26. The power unit is pivotally mounted on the frame 10 and the fork 14 is pivotally mounted on the frame 10 or on the power unit. Balancing means 39 balance 90-110% of the rotating masses which include the big end portion of the connecting rod 34 of the power unit. Resilient damping means 18 are located between the engine and the frame 10. The power unit comprises an internal combustion engine having one or more cylinders. The axes 21, 23, 26a may be coincident or parallel to one another. The invention is applicable to motorcycles, tricycles or snowmobiles having endless tracks.
