Abstract

1313152 Transistor Class B amplifiers MULLARD Ltd 20 July 1970 34974/70 Heading H3T In a Class B amplifier having a driver transistor TR1 and complementary transistor output devices TR2, TR3 serially connected between a direct current supply, a first boot-strap circuit R1, R2, C1, TR2 is connected to the collector of the driver transistor TR1 and through a diode D3 to a second boot-strap circuit R6, R7, C2, TR3 so that if the collector current of the driver transistor TR1 rises above a predetermined level the diode D3 is cut-off to isolate the collector of TR1 from the second boot-strap circuit. The diode D3 protects the driver transistor TR1 from excessive current flow and diodes D1 and D2 protect the output transistors TR2, TR3. The load RL may be a loud-speaker and instead of the load being connected to the centre point of the supply it may be connected to one side of the supply through a capacitor. A voltage level setting arrangement X may be a series chain of diodes or a transistor (TR4, Fig. 3, not shown) and the output transistors TR2 and TR3 may each be replaced by a pair of transistors (TR5, TR6 and TR7, TR8).
