Abstract

1312987 Olefin disproportionation catalysts ENTREPRISE DE RECHERCHES ET D'ACTIVITES PETROLIERES (ELF) 19 May 1970 [22 May 1969] 24151/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] An olefin disproportionation catalyst is derived from (a) a molybdenum or tungsten alcoholate or phenolate having the formula MO(OR) 4 or M(OR) 6 , wherein M is molybdenum or tungsten and R is an alkyl or aryl group, and (b) a halogenated organoaluminium compound, for example an alkylaluminium sesquichloride or an alkylaluminium dichloride. The components (a) and (b) preferably are used in proportions such that the Al:Mo or Al:W molar ratio is between 6:1 and 12:1. The catalyst may be prepared by mixing the molybdenum or tungsten alcoholate or phenolate with a solution of an olefin in a hydrocarbon, for example an aliphatic hydrocarbon, and then adding the halogenated organoaluminium compound to the resulting mixture. As exemplified, catalyst is prepared from tungsten oxyphenolate WO(OC 6 H 5 ) 4 , ethylaluminium sesquichloride (prepared from aluminium chloride and triethylaluminium) and a trace of alcohol in the presence of hexane (Example 1); tungsten oxyphenolate WO(OC 6 H 5 ) 4 and ethylaluminimum dichloride in the presence of chlorobenzene (Example 2); tungsten oxyphenolate WO(OC 6 H 5 ) 4 , ethylaluminium dichloride and ethanol in the presence of unspecified solvent (Example 3); or tungsten hexaphenolate W(OC 6 H 5 ) 6 and ethylaluminium dichloride in the presence of chlorobenzene (Example 4).
