Abstract

1312979 Heat-fixing RICOH K K 9 June 1970 [14 June 1969 18 June 1969] 27763/70 Heading G2H Toner images on a sheet 1 are fixed by feeding the sheet 1 between a heated roller 7, having a peripheral surface of a non-adhesive fluorinated resin, and an endless belt 3, urged against the roller 7 by means of a roller 21, the driving speed of the outer layer of the roller 7 being equal to the speed of the endless belt. The roller 7 is heated internally by means 6 which may be a lamp or a heating element and thermostatic control may be provided to maintain the surface temperature between 130‹C. and 170‹C. while the device is operating. When not in use the roller surface may be maintained at a temperature between 60‹C. and 90‹C. by providing a NESA glass layer (7b) Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) between the outer non-adhesive layer (7a) and a glass cylinder (7c). A cleaner 14 engages the peripheral surface of the heating roller 7 to wipe off attached toner. The tension roll 21 which engages the lower run of the endless belt 3 may be displaced to bring the upper run into contact with the roller 7 when a sheet 1 approaches the fixing unit.
