Abstract

1312751 Agglomerating particles REPROGRAPHIC MATERIALS Inc 12 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970 14 Dec 1970] 1441/71 Headings C1A and C1N [Also in Division G2] Pigment particles of less than 1 micron size are agglomerated to a particle size of 1-30 micron by incorporating the particles and an anionic surfactant in an aqueous solution of a coacervatable material which is then coacervated or in the aqueous solution after coacervation. The agglomerated articles may be further agglomerated by the same process. The degree of agglomeration is dependent on the nature of the pigment and surfactant, the proportion of surfactant and the temperature, of which examples are given. The pigment may be carbon black, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or organic dyestuff. The coacervatable material may be gelatine, gelatine/ethylene-maleic anhydride copolymer, gelatine/styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer or acrylic polymer. Known coacervation techniques are employed.
