Abstract

1312549 Pneumatic tyre treads GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 20 July 1971 33945/71 Heading B7C A pneumatic tractor-tyre 10 has a tread portion 11 comprising two sets of primary lugs 19 and 20 and two sets of secondary lugs 21 and 22; each of the first set 19 of primary lugs includes an axially outer, 24, and axially inner, 26, portion, the axially outer portion extending from one lateral edge 16 of the tread for about one half of the distance to the centre of the tread at an angle of between 60 and 75 degrees, e.g. 67 degrees, to the mid-circumferential centre-line 18, the axially inner portion 26 extending from the axially inner end 25 of the portion 24 across the centre-line 18 at an angle of between 15 and 35 degrees, e.g. 32 degrees, to the centre-line 18; each lug of the second set 20 of primary lugs being similar to each of set 19 but opposite in hand and extending from the other lateral edge 15 and being staggered with respect to the next adjacent lugs of set 19; each lug of the first set 21 of the secondary lugs extending from edge 16 at an angle of between 60 and 75 degrees, e.g. 67 degrees, to the centre-line 18 terminating short of the centre-line 18 and being disposed between adjacent pairs of primary lugs in the set 19; each of the second set 22 of secondary lugs being similar to each of set 21 but opposite in hand and extending from edge 15. Each of the two sets of secondary lugs may comprise an axially inner, 34, and an axially outer, 38, portion, each portion 38 extending from a lateral edge 15 or 16 one third of the way to the centreline 18 at an angle of between 60 and 75 degrees, e.g. 67 degrees, to the centre-line 18, each portion 34 extending from the axially inner end 37 of the portion 38 two thirds of the distance between end 37 and the centre-line 18 and making an angle of between 40 and 50 degrees, e.g. 45 degrees, to the centre-line 18. Enlarged ends 28 and 36 are provided on the lugs in the ground contacting area of the tread portion 11. The arrow in Fig. 1 indicates the preferred direction of rotation of the tyre.
