Abstract

1312375 Cleaning metals in fused baths IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 May 1971 [26 June 1970] 31048/70 Heading C7E A coating of platinum group metal oxide is stripped from a titianium base, prior to recoating for use as an electrode, by immersing in a bath of molten alkali metal hydroxide containing at least 0À1 % by weight of alkali metal hydride and then washing in water. The electrode may be subsequently immersed in a hot diluted mineral acid, e.g. H 2 SO 4 , and then rinsed in water. The hydride may be formed in the bath by reactron between the metal and hydrogen or cracked ammonia. The oxide coating may include oxides of Ti, Zr, Nb, Ta, W, Sn, Ge and Sb.
