1312089 Securing wrappers to rolls made, for instance, of paper WARTSILA AB OY 1 July 1970 [2 July 1969] 31809/70 Heading B8C In an apparatus for crimping the projecting end portions of wrappers on cylindrical rolls, made for instance of paper, a wrapped roll 1 is either pushed, as shown, by mechanism 4 having a roller 5, or, is moved by gravity down a slope, between a pair of laterally-spaced rows of teeth 3, the mechanism 4 also carrying two rolls 6 surrounded by an endless belt for pressing the roll downwardly and holders 7 each of which extends laterally beyond the distance reached by the corresponding uncrimped end of the wrapper, and is return-bent toward the adjacent end face of the roll to maintain in position an end cover for the roll. Screws 9, driven by a motor 8, regulate the spacing of the two rows of teeth. The latter all have an apex angle of about 90 degrees, the upper interior part of the teeth being bevelled, as shown, in Fig. 3. The leading tooth in each row is considerably smaller than the others. In a modification, Fig. 2, not shown, the roll (1) rotates in a fixed position on rollers (10), a pair of endless toothed chains (3a) being located at the sides, towards the top, of the roll. The mechanism includes holders (7) for intermediate end sheets and may include a device (6) to press downwardly upon the roll (1).
