Abstract
1311267 Pneumatic tyres MICHELIN & CIE 19 April 1971 [7 April 1970 27 Jan 1971] 26380/71 Heading B7C In a radial pneumatic tyre having in its tread circumferential ribs 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and grooves 2, 3 extending around the tyre, furrow and sawtooth wear of the rib edges is reduced or avoided by increasing the flexibility of the rib or ribs nearest the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre by the provision in the side faces of such rib or ribs of slits 6 which extend in a direction substantially at right angles to the said plane and are of a length, measured in that direction, which increases radially inwardly from the road contacting surface 9. The slits may either extend substantially over the whole height of the ribs (Fig. 3), or be such that they do not break through the road contacting surface (Fig. 4, not shown). The maximum lengths of the slits measured at right angles to that midcircumferential plane is between 3 and 20 mm.
