Abstract
1311064 Sulphur trioxide BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 6 Aug 1970 [7 Aug 1969] 37923/70 Heading C1A Sulphur trioxide produced by reacting SO 2 and/or S and O 2 or n oxygen containing gas in a bed of catalyst fluidized by means of the O 2 or O 2 -containing gas while removing the heat produced in the reaction by indirect cooling of the catalyst bed whereby the temperature at the gas inlet of the bed is 480‹ to 650‹ C. and the temperature at the gas outlet is 350‹ to 420‹ C. Preferably cooling pipes providing 20-40% of the total cooling surface are located in the central third of the bed and cooling pipes providing 80-60% of the total cooling surface are located in the upper third of the bed. Known vanadium catalysts, preferably of particle size from 0À1 to 3 mm. may be included in the bed.
