Abstract

1310817 Polymerization of isoprene JAPANESE GEON CO Ltd 10 Sept 1970 43435/70 Heading C3P Cis-1,4-polyisoprene of improved strength and modulus is prepared by polymerizing isoprene in the presence of up to 8 parts by wt. of ethylene per 100 parts of isoprene, using a catalyst comprising a titanium tetrahalide and an organo-aluminium compound of formula R 3 Al or R 2 AlX, where each group R is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl and X is hydrogen or a halogen. The preparation of polymers using varying amounts of ethylene and the vulcanization of the products are described.
