Abstract
1310765 Stapling machines MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 23 March 1970 [25 March 1969(3)] 14002/70 Heading B4C An electrically operated stapling machine comprises a staple driving lever 13 pivotable by means of an electromagnet 16 via an armature 17, bell crank levers 19 pivoted at 20 and links 22 to drive a staple from a staple strip A through sheets to be stapled towards an anvil 8. Energization of the electromagnet 16 is controlled by a microswitch 27 which is actuated in response to pivoting of a lever 9 by the sheets. A projection 49 on the lever 9 contacts a plate 29 pivotally mounted on a pin 30 so that pivoting of the lever 9 effects pivotal movement of the plate 29 against bias of spring 31 to move a spring biased pivoted member 33 carried by the plate into contact with a pivoted plate 36 which when pivoted, effects actuation of the microswitch. At the end of a driving stroke downward movement of a pin 23 (Fig. 3) extending between the crank levers 19 causes pivoting of a lever 41 so as to pivot the member 33 against bias of spring 35 and permit the plate 36 to return to its initial position. The electromagnet is de-energized. The position of the lever 9 can be adjusted by means of a knob 51 to permit sheets to be stapled at different locations, and the lever 9 is positively located in an adjusted position by a projection (111) (Fig. 15, not shown) of a spring (115) movable by the knob 51 engaging corrugations (126) in a fixed member (123). The anvil 8 is provided with three oval holes (106) (Fig. 14, not shown) for receiving fixing screws, the shape of the holes permitting adjustment of the position of the anvil. A staple guide case 12 which receives a staple magazine 61 is pivotally mounted, as is the driving lever 13, on a pin 14. Clockwise movement (Fig. 1) of the guide case 12 and of the driving lever by springs is limited by stops 53 and projections 94 respectively. A lever 81 pivotally and adjustably carried by a pin 82 having an eccentric 82<SP>1</SP> has a projection 83 which engages in a notch 67 in the magazine to prevent forward movement of the magazine under bias of a spring (80) (Fig. 6, not shown). To release the projection 83 from the notch 67, a knob 99 is moved rear-wardly so as to pivot the lever 81 against bias of spring 98. A U-shaped member 64 carried by the magazine has a portion 66 extending into a longitudinal groove 56 in the guide case 12 so as to prevent complete withdrawal of the magazine when it is to be replenished with staples.
