Abstract

1310738 Polybenzimidazoles BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 26 Aug 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 41003/70 Heading C3R A polybenzimidazole is obtained by condensing (A) a dialdehyde, bis-dihalomethyl compound or bis-trihalomethyl compound of formula where X is -CHO, -CH(Hal) 2 or -C(Hal) 3 and Ar is a divalent aromatic radical, with (B) a salt of an aromatic tetraamino compound in which two pairs of amino groups are attached to the aromatic nucleus, the members of each pair being in ortho-position to each other. The reactants are heated alone or in polyphosphoric acid which may be diluted with a polar solvent. Examples are given.
